Free Art Print!
When I graduated from the Art Institute back in December of 2000, I made it quite clear that I was going to do things my way. I didn’t know the struggles that this would entail, the instability, famine, poverty, etc., but I did know that if I was going to fail, it would have to be on my terms. And while I haven’t reached the level that I am aspiring to, my skills have consistently improved, my vision has focused and my work has flourished. Not only that, but my support network here, on Instagram and on Facebook particularly have really motivated me to keep going in the face of adversity.
I know that not everyone can afford a limited edition fine art print. They are expensive. Collectors and art aficionados are not exactly breaking down my door, but that’s ok. Just by you subscribing to this newsletter or sharing my Facebook posts, following me on Instagram and your random encouragement, I am motivated to keep going. And, I think now is the perfect time to say MAHALO – Thank you – for your support.
Today I’m doing something that is shunned among artists around the world. I’m giving away a free art print. You’ve undoubtedly heard the term “starving artist.” I promise you that every artist has felt at some point that the term was meant for him. We do a lot of different things to pay the bills. Some of us work as accountants, bartenders, cashiers, custodians, firefighters, tour guides, etc. just to make ends meet. But make no mistake, our passion is in our art. And if we are lucky enough to one day be able to make our living solely off of art, then we have reached a huge milestone.
Giving away a free art print is counter intuitive to a struggling artist, but here’s why I am doing it:
I believe, and it has actually been proven time and again in commissioned studies, that art can increase the happiness of an individual. It has been used as a form of therapy in hospitals across the world, and many people swear by the power of a serene landscape. So, whether you can afford it or not, this one is for you. I hope you like it, I hope it makes you thankful, feel blessed, loved, grateful and at peace. You are welcome to print it as large as you like from your favorite printer. All I ask is you don’t sell it or use it for commercial purposes. If you can handle that, and you would like to see this piece hanging on your wall, well, here’s a link where you can download it.
If you aren’t sure where or how to print it, here’s some suggestions:
- The dimensions are 2:3 in aspect ratio. This means that you can print it 8″x12″, 12″x18″, 20″x30″, 24″x36″, 30″x45″ or even 40″x60″. You can print on canvas, photographic paper or even aluminum.
- If you don’t know where to print it, try Costco. They do a really good job at a pretty darn good price. I haven’t printed any aluminum prints from them, but I’d be willing to bet they come out great. They don’t print larger than 24″x36″, however. If you want to print bigger than that, try Bay Photo or West Coast Imaging. Both do a great job.
This experiment, while altruistic in nature, may or may not come back to destroy my reputation as an artist.
