This image came to be completely serendipitously one evening when I was attempting to photograph another area nearby. What I realized though, was the composition I was in the process of shooting was going to look much better in the morning light than in the evening. So I scrambled to find another shot and as I was running past these palm trees I kept thinking “Wow is that ever beautiful…” But it looked too much like a postcard – which is great and all, but it didn’t have that unique spin to it, where it becomes more than a postcard image; where it becomes art.
Then I started looking at the grass and I really liked the way the light was hitting it. I got down all the way onto my belly, setup my camera literally right on top of the grass and framed up the image that I liked. It looked so perfect I couldn’t believe it. I focused in on the grass in front of me and tried to capture each and every blade as they became aglow with the light of the setting sun. Just as the sun made its last stand I fired off a few more frames and landed this beauty.
I’ve seen these palms shot 8 billion times, but never like this. The detail in this image is incredible. From the foreground to the sunset, every little aspect is in focus, and it looks insane!
